The Chamber Governmental Relation Committee Discussed Several Bills at this Month’s Meeting

AB 1701 (Thurmond/Fletcher). The bill would require a building contractor to be liable for wages which were not paid by a subcontractor. Civil actions for violations could be brought by the Labor Commissioner, the worker or a joint labor-management cooperation committee. State or government employees would be exempt from the law. Los Angeles County's Sales Tax Rate to Increase Measure M Will Take Effect July 1 Sacramento – The half-cent sales tax increase approved by Los Angeles County voters in November 2016 – Measure M – will go into effect on July 1, 2017. The increase will apply to every city and unincorporated area of Los Angeles County, bringing the countywide sales and use tax rate to 9.25 percent.

California Restroom Sign Law Effective March 1

Starting March 1, 2017, all single-user toilet facilities in any business establishment, place of public accommodation or government agency must be identified as “all-gender” toilet facilities. The law authorizes inspectors or other building or local officials responsible for code enforcement to inspect for compliance (Health and Safety Code sec. 118600).
