Claremont Measure G – Vote YES

Measure G, developed after an extensive community outreach program, proposes a bond issue to perform a wide variety of maintenance projects at CUSD schools.  Those include energy-efficient lighting and HVAC (heating and air conditioning) updates throughout the district; roofing at all schools except for CHS; replacement of certain portable classrooms throughout the district with longer-lived modular buildings; upgrades to CHS’ large gym, including the installation of HVAC; upgrades to identified classrooms; an overhaul of the music building as well as the student center/food prep facility at Claremont High; and refurbishment of the pools at El Roble Intermediate and Claremont High School.
State funding does not cover this kind of maintenance and renovation.  Hence a school district must seek local means of paying for these needs.  Hence this bond issue. Measure G proposes $58,000,000 in bonds, with independent financial audits, citizen oversight, no money for administrator and teacher salaries, and all money staying local.
CSUD buildings are aging.  Because of the lack of funding for maintenance – something that all who have worked at state facilities are perfectly familiar with – it is always delayed.  At some point the issue must be confronted.  CSUD finds itself in just that predicament:  the time has come to bite the bullet (and interest rates are now very low making the bond issue attractive).
Claremont needs to pass Measure G.
