Description
Mountainside Chorale partners with Alzheimer?s Association for Claremont performance.
Mountainside Master Chorale, with Mt. San Antonio Chamber Singers and La Verne University Chamber Singers, present Robert Cohen?s ?Alzheimer?s Stories? and ?Requiem for the Living? by Dan Forest, directed by Irene Messoloras, on Sunday, March 15, at 3:30 p.m. at Claremont United Church of Christ. At 2:45 p.m., a special pre-concert presentation about the work and Alzheimer?s will be offered by Composer Cohen.
The Chorale partners with the Southland Chapter of the Alzheimer?s Association of California to present this unique, relevant, and musically stunning offering. Volunteers from the Association and from Claremont?s ?AgingNext? will host a donor reception after the concert in the Louise Roberts Hall at CUCC. A portion of concert tickets and reception donations benefits the Alzheimer?s Association. Tickets for concert and reception are available at mountainsidemasterchorale.org., and at the door. For information, call (714) 536-2541 or 909-214-2992.
The ?Alzheimer?s Stories? libretto by Herschel Garfein is based on actual stories of people touched by this disease, their families and friends. Studies and observations show that music is ?the last memory? to which many Alzheimer patients respond. It is fitting that a musical work brings awareness to this disease and to the power of music. Dr. Messoloras notes that ?Alzheimer?s Disease has touched the lives of so many people. As we watch our loved ones struggle, we feel their pain and sadness. At the pre-concert lecture we will share how this incredible work was created and how it has touched the lives of audiences and musicians around the world.?
